Open an Endowment Account or Revocable Account (Money Market/CD)

When you invest through the United Methodist Foundation (UMF), you are not only growing your finances but also supporting ministry in local churches and around the world. Many United Methodist Churches and partner institutions trust UMF with their investments, often maintaining multiple accounts for different purposes.

  • ENDOWMENT ACCOUNTS (Permanent account)
    • Endowment Accounts are permanent in nature, meaning that funds placed in an Endowment cannot, at a later time, be completely withdrawn and the account closed. Endowments are popular with many churches and donors knowing the funds will always remain at the Foundation and will pay dividends in perpetuity. Permanent Endowment funds are typically invested only in the Balanced Fund. For more information regarding endowments, click the link below.
    • Learn more about endowments with our Endowment Guide.
  • REVOCABLE ACCOUNTS (RA) (Non-permanent account) – Money Market and CD
    • Revocable Accounts function in a similar way to permanent Endowment Accounts, but can, at any point the donor chooses, be closed and any remaining funds on hand are then returned to the donor. The flexibility of such an account is attractive to many churches as it allows a pathway to change if circumstances require it. RIA funds are invested in either the Balanced Fund or the Income Fund. If you want to know more about how our funds are invested, feel free to browse the Investment portion of our website.

In alignment with the Wesleyan Tradition, UMF provides a unique selection of fund portfolios that prioritize socially responsible investing. This enables churches and nonprofits to achieve their long-term financial goals while supporting ethical practices and empowering our work in North Carolina.

Both Endowment and RA accounts follow UMF’s current guidelines for payouts. Our standard spending policy is a 5% payout of the January 1 market value, distributed quarterly, semi-annually, or annually.
